LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY IS MISSION. I. The noble mission of the monastic A monastic person is someone who always establishes a pure life, eliminates afflictions, subdues demons, repays four favors above, and saves suffering in three ways as taught by To Qui Son. : "Future out of the household fake, develop super-facilitation, the mind is eccentric; introduce the holy dragon, capture the demon army, use the four gifts, and sacrifice the three friends." Meaning: To discuss the monastic, to go to the Mahayana level, to have a different form of mind, to join the Buddha lineage, to defeat the demon army, to repay the four favors, to help the three realms. Since then, monastics have strived to "Inner need to keep in mind the merits and virtues of the external world", that is to say, practice mindfulness internally, and externally show the virtue of not competing or losing with the world, in order to complete the task. The noble mission or sole responsibility is to enlighten oneself, to be able to bring enlightened wisdom to others,Free yourself so you can save others. People who have great monastic mind naturally live a holy life, setting themselves up as a good example, leading the way for the world, being a model and moral for believers, and continuing the Dharma lamp of the Tathagata that has been circulated everywhere. . That is the role and responsibility of the monk. That role and responsibility is very sacred and more valuable than other modern economic commodities. Therefore, in the suttas, the Buddha taught that: "With a holy life, strictly observing the precepts, a bhikkhu does not cause suffering to himself, to others, to all species, but on the contrary, brings peace, fearlessness, happiness for all. Is such a person worthy of respect and offerings? That is the actual practical result of the monastic. The monk who renounces covetousness in the world, lives with a mind free from craving, abandoning anger, compassion and compassion for all sentient beings… That is the practical result of the recluse.” Indeed, today's monks and nuns live in a social environment filled with the allure of lust, The feeling that the monastic soul is not wavered, it is an extremely difficult and challenging journey. Therefore, the image of a monastic person also means a person with firm aspiration, steadfast concentration, and a quality of patience in the face of life's adversities. That is why the image and role of the monastic becomes noble. The lay Buddhists wholeheartedly respect and wholeheartedly support the monastic community for this very reason. All monastics and laypeople think of the rise of Buddhism in the cause of spreading the Dharma of the Tathagata, wishing that the Buddha Dharma and the truth of the Tathagata would flourish. But how to contribute to that prosperity? This is a difficult problem, a mystery, without the hands of enthusiastic monks. We are not writing this article here with the ambition to present a method for a certain monk to make the Buddha Dharma flourish, but we would like to present some thoughts on the matter, so that we can contribute. help today's young monks and nuns think more about Buddhism in the 21st century. II. The mission of preaching the Dharma of the Monks The mission of preaching the Dharma is very important, because this is the premise for the Buddha's teachings to be handed down. It is from the Buddha's time up to now, in any country, any era, activities in the Church or any sect, they play an extremely important role in all activities of Buddhism, in which Of course, there must be preaching. After the Buddha attained enlightenment,If he hadn't turned the wheel of Dharma for the first time at the Deer Park, if his four groups of disciples for the past 26 centuries hadn't continued to practice and spread the teachings, then Buddhism wouldn't have existed, and there would have been no Buddhism for us to study and practice to this day. The thought of Buddhism, which was originated by the Buddha, has deeply integrated into Vietnamese culture, contributing to enriching the national cultural background. Since then, through the ages from opening the country to building the country, Buddhism has always been in harmony with other ideologies, with the spirit of tolerance, openness, compassion and wisdom. The Patriarchs for many generations have preserved and transmitted the Buddhadharma, sacrificed their lives, so that today we monks and nuns can inherit it. With the wish to sacrifice oneself to seek the way, to give up wealth and to pray for poverty, to live a frugal life, inheriting the virtue of compassion, selfless and selfless that the Patriarchs have traveled to distant lands and countries to transmit the Dharma without any hardships or hardships. Therefore, for more than 26 centuries, Buddhism has always been peaceful, without a drop of blood being shed for the propagation of the Dharma, without any conversion by force or any other coercive means, with no intention to invade. mausoleum usurped. Wherever Buddhism goes, it only brings the light of compassion and morality to it and creates peace and happiness for the people of that country. Buddhism has made great contributions to the evolution of many countries in Asia. Currently, Europe, America, Africa... more or less have Buddhist footprints. There are countries that flourish and then decline. There are empires built on violence and power that prosper and then fall apart, but the kingdom of Dharma founded by the Buddha with love, compassion and wisdom are still thriving and will continue to prosper in this world. The mission of preaching the Dharma is very important, and it is not the sole job of a single monastic. People who have left home to study Buddhism, their bodies do not daily take care of their parents and parents, they have not even returned the favor to the Fatherland. They rely on the door of meditation to pray early in the evening, eat just enough, don't wear too warm clothes, and do not waste their time in service. Waste of time. Therefore, those who come out of the world must reveal the footprints of the Patriarchs, propagate the Buddha's teachings, be diligent in love and compassion, not lose or lose in competition, in order to be worthy of being a Zen monk and a spiritual refuge. for four of them. Think for yourself that every action, every word, and every thought are forces planted in the atmosphere of the dharmadhatu of dependent origination. That is what is fundamental and essential of Buddhism that monastics themselves must do.The Buddha once taught the bhikkhus to set out to spread the Dharma with the following touching words: "Bhikkhus!... Go forth for the benefit of many, for the happiness of the many. , out of compassion for the world, for the benefit, for the happiness of gods and humans. Go, but don't go two people in the same direction, go one by one, spread the Dharma... Raise the banner of the wise, teach the sublime Dharma, bring about goodness to others; If you do, then you have completed the task.”([1]) This earnest teaching became a manifesto, a program that clearly stated the motivation and purpose of the preaching that young monks and nuns today need to carry out. presently. In the current situation, overseas, more than ever, Vietnamese Buddhist monks need to make efforts to light up the precious heritage of their ancestors.to repay the profound grace of the Buddha and the teaching virtue of the Master, and at the same time to manifest the vows of the collective Vietnamese Sangha. In fact, the presence of Buddhism in Australian society today is essential. Sociologists say that most young people from Buddhist families have a background in the spiritual life and rarely commit crimes. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a program of Buddhist education for the ethnic communities here. Granted, religious education is the task of the nation's universal education. However, this guide to cultural and ethical life will have a strong impact and influence on young people if Buddhist organizations take over. The root issue of Buddhism in Australia is the compelling story of a Compassion-Wisdom religion that persists despite its limited advantages. How did a religion come into being over 2.600 years, 500 years before Christianity, 1,000 years before Islam, still compatible with modern Australian life? All the ancient religions are dying before the present reality, such as the ancient Egyptian sun worship, the South American Mayan human sacrifice, and the medieval Celtic religion of the British. , but Buddhism outlived all of them. Buddhism does not propagate an unfamiliar cult, or seek converts, like evangelical fervor. Buddhism does not offer the dogmas of a heretical religion, nor does it aggressively seek to convert. Australians who follow Buddhism are completely voluntary, who have voluntarily converted, they come to Buddhism because they find inner peace. Australians who came to Buddhism and were often seriously educated middle-aged scholars,They are attracted by a sense of inner peace. Therefore, the land forever immersed in its material world seems to be the attraction of Buddhism spread here. Maybe it's like the eyes of the ancients that we see for the first time. What's fascinating here is that despite the recent increase in the number of new Buddhists across Australia, Buddhism has indeed played a role in Australian history for some time. It's not a spike in immigration. In fact, some anthropologists have suggested that Buddhism may have been the earliest foreign religion to arrive in Australia before white settlers arrived. Buddhism has been growing very fast in Australia, is the second largest religion after Christianity, the religion inherent in this country. According to the latest statistics, there are more than 200,000 followers of Buddhism.Currently, there are over 300 Buddhist temples, monasteries and organizations, belonging to all sects and sects (Theravada, Mahayana, Tantric...), all ethnicities (Chinese, Tibetan, Thai, etc.) Burma, Laos, Vietnam…) in Australia, of which there are 41 official VOLUNTEER MEMBERS of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha at UDL-TTL term 5 (2015-2019).[2] An increasing number of Australians are turning to Buddhism, which is a good sign. However, they had difficulty in learning and practicing Buddhist teachings, due to language differences and cultural barriers between ethnic groups. Therefore, Buddhist associations in Australia, especially Australians, must actively coordinate with Buddhist associations of other ethnicities to jointly solve difficulties and deadlocks in the propagation process. It's a concern that's not just anyone's,that the Vietnamese Buddhist monks in Australia have to think about, must find ways to promote and spread the Buddha's teachings widely to other communities rather than just being isolated within their own ethnic group. III. The responsibility of the Abbot Wanting to spread the Buddhadharma to the masses of society, it is necessary to ask "Tathagata messengers" to propagate and receive the mission of receiving the Sangha and transmitting the Buddha's teachings to them. birth, in order to transform the mind, create a peaceful and happy life right in the world. They must have the desire to commit themselves to serve the Dharma and to serve humanity in the spirit of selflessness and selflessness. The Abbot is the messenger in the propagation of the Buddhadharma, because the temple is the gathering place for the Buddhist masses, attached to all human and social activities. The promotion of the Dharma is greatly influenced by the Abbot's ability to practice and effectively carry out local Buddhist activities. From a practical perspective, the role of the Abbot has become the central agent of all Buddhist activities and conveys the content of Buddhism into society, helping the Buddha's teachings to be spread everywhere. with different objects. Buddhism is not a creed, nor is it a religion. Buddhism is close to Psychology and is a philosophy in which there is an ethics of cultivating xinxing. Albert Einstein said: “The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. This religion will transcend a personified God, devoid of doctrines or theology. A religion both for nature and for the human spirit, based on spiritual contemplation of all things in nature, unified harmony. Buddhism achieves the above. If there is a religion that can adapt to the modern needs of Science, it must be Buddhism. Therefore, the temple should be considered as a facility for spreading the Buddha's teachings, not merely meeting religious needs. The Abbot has many advantages and advantages, and is highly proactive in the mission of preaching the Dharma. An Abbot must be an effective preacher, so he must know his important role and social context, the needs of followers and how to move the Dharma wheel to transform the birth mechanism. active to suit the times. Therefore, the role of the Abbot has become the center of transmission of the Buddha's content, the source of wisdom in each person, and also the center of mobilization of all Buddhist affairs in the locality when necessary. To fulfill the responsibility,The role of the Abbot in the cause of service to the Dharma and the nation, the prerequisite is that when performing all Buddhist activities, it must be in accordance with the Dharma and the Buddha's precepts. Observance of the precepts is one of the most important factors of the Abbot. The new majesty of morality can serve as a solid support for the Four Orders to follow and practice and assume the role of the mission of spreading the Dharma to save birth. When the precepts are kept in a pure way, the mundane isolation of a monastic is revealed. When people look at the Abbot's shining conduct, they will develop a mind to turn to the Buddhadharma. Therefore, the Abbot's observance of the precepts is not only for personal benefit, but also for the benefit of many people. This is one of the important factors that make the masses come to Buddhism, leading to success in the process of propagating the Dharma. The abbot's standard lifestyle in the holy life also reflects a noble example to everyone. The image and virtuous lifestyle of the Abbot will be a lively, persuasive speechless sermon to convert people back to the Dharma. The Taoist religion is an exemplary symbol that makes a pious impression on the way of persuading others. In daily life, the Buddhist masses often observe and comment on the Abbot from many angles, from the shape and gestures to the style of behavior, the level of practice as well as the method of practice... There are abbots who are not fluent in their preaching skills and are energetic, but it is his teaching with great virtue and dignity that is a speechless sermon that transforms so many people back to the path of enlightenment. The person who carries the mission of preaching the Dharma must always cultivate himself, perfect his personality to be a model for everyone around. Without an exemplary life, it is not possible to give followers confidence and make them practice according to what we instruct, the path of teaching will not bring any results. What is needed in the Abbot is wisdom and virtue. Through daily activities, he shows the manners of a monk, solves everything with the mind of cultivating and practicing the Buddha's teachings, creating a source of energy for peaceful transformation for everyone. People. Each temple is a cultural and educational center of Buddhism, in which the Abbot plays the leading role in building the organizational structure of the center's activities. It is necessary to maintain regular lectures on periodic retreats, penitential days at the temple,or integrated into festival programs such as Buddha's birthday, Vu Lan, astral holidays, ancestors' anniversaries, traditional days... in order to create vitality for the movement to study in each monastery and as a way to spread the Buddhadharma. extensively from each local monastic establishment. Establishing a practice ashram is one of the goals of the Church in general and of each Abbot in particular in order to meet the needs of Buddhists today, practice healthy lifestyles, and practice methods. have practical benefits for the transformation of body and mind, multiplying the peaceful energy source for the community. For the purpose of conveying the Buddha's thought into practical life, the Abbot not only propagated the Buddhadharma through the universal knowledge of Buddhist studies on the theory of texts, but also through elaborate personal experience. practice. When you want to teach others a certain practice, requires the Abbot to be a person who has a process of supernormal practice, advanced spiritual energy, has practiced through experimental methods to be able to apply it smoothly to transform and remove obstacles for people. others. Those guiding methods must be true to the Buddha's teachings, practical and bring practical benefits in the present and in the future. The Abbot must have a long training process, in-depth study of the scriptures and practice of the Dharma. If he does not have a certain amount of effort in studying and practicing, it will be a great shortcoming, and the mission of preaching the Dharma will be difficult to accomplish. Today, many Buddhist followers have a very deep level of Buddhism. Therefore, the abbot also needs to equip himself with a knowledge of all the areas necessary for his responsibilities, being well versed in the internal scriptures, knowledgeable in the external scriptures, must have experience in receiving the Sangha, know how to organize and study in meditation, aesthetic knowledge about building temples, how to design places of worship... Although, the Abbot has many Buddhist teachings, but must spend time to study more common knowledge and internal and external scriptures to keep up with the development and innovation of the times, to implement the principle of Buddhism: "Intellectual wisdom on business", using wisdom as a career to awaken oneself and awaken sentient beings to jointly pursue happiness for all beings, so that Vietnamese Buddhism in foreign countries can enter the world. Looking back to the past more than three decades of refugee and settlement in Australia in particular and overseas in general, at present, Vietnamese Buddhism abroad has laid a solid foundation and flourished activities. Temples and institutions have been established throughout the states, where there are Vietnamese settlers. The majority of monks and nuns followed the wave of refugees who came here, founded the GH and embarked on promoting the Buddhist movement for the masses to become more diverse, more organized, and to gather more people. A number of other modest monks and nuns have also been trained overseas to provide urgent Buddhist needs. The Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam in Australia, together with the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha in other continents, has also made efforts to re-establish religious freedom and human rights for Vietnam. But that's not enough, why? Compared with the spread of Buddhism by monks from countries such as China, Taiwan, Tibet, Thailand... In Australia or Western countries, Europe, America, Africa... Vietnamese Buddhism in foreign countries is far behind, in many forms. The knowledge of monks from all over the world who have come into contact and encouraged integration in the country, do not know how many natives have left home.Meanwhile, there are many Vietnamese monks and nuns abroad today, especially young monks and nuns, but few are willing to commit to practicing their religion, learning the native language, and translating the scriptures to spread the language in their country of residence. living, always worrying about calling for fundraising to build pagodas, attracting Vietnamese Buddhists from other pagodas to their temples, the previous class was worried about calling for the revival of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha in the country, fighting for freedom and human rights for Vietnam. , the latter class practiced half-heartedly, always taking care of benefits, unable to attract young Vietnamese of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s to come to the pagoda, if the generation of Vietnamese before and after 75, they get old, they no longer exist. healthy enough, their children and grandchildren do not take them to the temple to do business.Try to ask this generation, how many people of Vietnamese origin will go to the temple? Not to mention the elderly Vietnamese monks and nuns living abroad, but most of the monks have lost themselves, who will continue to inherit? Maintaining Vietnamese temples overseas? Therefore, we call for the self-effort of young Vietnamese monks and nuns abroad. In addition to diligently practicing the precepts, it is necessary to cultivate more local languages, assimilate the natives, guide them to follow you, and translate. Even though the culture and language are different, Buddhism does not distinguish between North and South sects, languages, Buddhist monks and nuns regularly organize training courses to attract people. native. The scriptures are translated into the language where they reside.
